Four top-down hotel scenes: a reception robot greets a guest at the front desk, a cleaning robot cleans the lobby, a delivery robot takes an order up to a room via the elevator, and a serving robot brings dishes to the restaurant.

In brief

Service robotics for hotels

Hotel robotics refers to the use of autonomous service robots for a hotel's repetitive tasks: in-room delivery, floor cleaning and guest welcome. Three families of robots coexist: delivery robots, which can ride the elevator on their own, autonomous floor scrubbers and screen-based welcome robots. In a hotel with more than 80 rooms, a room service robot typically pays for itself in 4 to 6 months compared with the cost of a night shift position.

Definitions

Service robot
A robot designed to assist staff with operational tasks (carrying, cleaning, welcoming), as opposed to the fixed industrial robots found on production lines.
Autonomous mobile robot (AMR)
A robot that moves on its own by mapping its surroundings, with no rails or floor markings, and steers around obstacles in real time.
Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS)
Renting a robot for a monthly or quarterly fee with a 36-month commitment, including installation, maintenance, insurance and replacement in case of failure. It is the alternative to buying the robot outright.

How it works

How a robot fits into a hotel

A hotel robot is not a device left in a corner: it is connected to your systems and to your building. Deployment follows four steps.

  1. Mapping

The robot travels the floors, elevators and service areas to build its navigation map.

  2. Connection

It is linked to the hotel PMS and to the elevator system, so it can receive requests and change floors on its own.

  3. Execution

Staff load the order, the robot heads to the room and notifies the guest when it arrives.

  4. Monitoring

A dashboard tracks completed deliveries, utilization rate and any alerts.

Use cases

Real situations, measurable results

  • Night-time room service

    Situation

Between 10 pm and 6 am, the front desk is often staffed by a single person.

    With a robot

Orders are delivered to the room without the receptionist leaving the desk.

  • Lobby upkeep

    Situation

The lobby must stay spotless while housekeeping focuses on the rooms.

    With a robot

The floor scrubber runs every day during off-peak hours, and the team stays on the guest floors.

  • Breakfast service

    Situation

The morning rush multiplies trips between the kitchen and the dining room.

    With a robot

The robot carries dishes and clears tables, servers stay with the guests.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about robots for hotels

Another question? Write to us.

It depends on your top priority. For room service and transport between floors, a delivery robot able to ride the elevator (Keenon BUTLERBOT W3, PuduBot 2). For common areas, an autonomous floor scrubber. For the front desk, a screen-based welcome robot. Elio's one-week assessment identifies the most profitable task to automate first.

Yes. Hotel delivery robots connect to the elevator system to call it and select the floor. The compatibility of your existing elevator is checked during the assessment; an interface module is sometimes required.

Elio estimates the payback period at 4 to 6 months in a hotel with more than 80 rooms, compared with the cost of a night shift position. The exact figure is calculated during the assessment based on your order volumes.

Not necessarily. You can either buy the robot or rent it for a monthly or quarterly fee with a 36-month commitment, including installation, maintenance, insurance and replacement in case of failure.

Allow one week to analyze your needs in detail and shortlist suitable robots. We then choose the robot or robots together, and organize a free demonstration at your site with test robots. Maintenance and after-sales service take over from there.
